Damien Lynch
Product/Furniture Designer & Maker
ABOUT ME
Currently I work at Siren Furniture Ltd in Nottingham as an assistant designer..Siren are suppliers to the UKs largest Furniture retailers, namely John Lewis, Debenhams and House of Fraser. Along with the rest of the design team we are responsible for taking products from sketch concept to the shop floor, liaising with buyers and factories to produce high end commercial products. Previously I worked as a design consultant for Camerich in London. Prior to this I worked at Duffy London and Jake Phipps Limited in Battersea, London. Where i spent 4 months as an unpaid intern designer/maker. Working on various high end pieces of furniture ,some valued at £25,000+. During my time here I was able to express a more hands on approach to design as I was an integral part of the manufacturing process. Before my move to London I spent 8 months at Sliderobes headquarters in Belfast in order to gain the experience needed to work as part of a design team also to strengthen my portfolio but simply because I want to design and I enjoy it.
During my time at Sliderobes I was an essential part and key decision maker in a team that created three new ranges of high end, costomizable free standing furniture, which consisted of 26 different products. I built upon skills like communication (through meeting with manufactures) Solidworks 2D and 3D (through the realisation of the products), but most of all realised that product/furniture design is where I want to be, what I want to do and what I love doing.
I want to design products that not only create a physical connection with the purchaser but an emotional one also. I believe I am a strong team player as proven in my years of playing team sports like soccer and gaelic football but I also posses a strong ability to consistently perform effectively as an individual which is outlined by the fact that I graduated from university. Since graduating from University I feel that my opinion of design has matured and is making a natural progression
